The Lone Bench

I have passed this area, in the North West of Calgary across from the Bow River, countless times, and almost every time, I have thought, "there is a picture here", but I never did have a closer look until last Sunday. At this time of year, the grove of poplars are bare, and the light from the early morning sun, shines across the trees, making them glow against the dark background of evergreens that clothe the escarpment just behind. I spotted the bench and centered the picture around this. The poplars on either side balanced very nicely, and I liked the curve of the bright branches against the dark evergreens. I took this picture from across the river so used a 90 mm. lens to get closer to the image that I wanted. This prints beautifully and as is so often the case, the printed image looks so much sharper than the monitor image. Although it took me several years to finally take the picture, I sure am glad that I did! The lesson I think, is, if you feel there is a picture, take the picture!
