Urban Reflections #1

Calgary is a rapidly growing city, and new skyscrapers seem to be going up almost all the time. Most of the facades are of glass and because of the proximity of the buildings, they reflect in each other, often with quite startling results. I was showing some friends downtown Calgary this week and became quite excited as I saw reflection after reflection. Needless to say, I started taking many pictures and know for sure that I will return several times to continue exploring this as a possible new project, now that this, my picture of the week project is coming to a close. This is one of the reflections that caught my eye. It shows a building under construction with a crane at the top, but the distortion of the reflection imparts a surrealistic quality. Suddenly the crane is either a prehistoric creature, or perhaps it is something from Star Wars! I love the repeated oval shapes that form the base. These have a lenticular appearance that makes this look like the top of a lighthouse. I am looking forward to capturing many more fascinating images of reflections like this one over the coming weeks and months.
