Speakeasy Window in Door

We recently returned from our Panama Canal Cruise which was wonderful. One of our stops was in Guatemala and we visited the old capital, La Antigua Guatemala. This is a beautiful UNESCO site filled with Spanish Colonial Architecture. This door was like one of many, beautifully timbered with ornate decorations and with a small observation window that allowed the owner to see who was at the door before opening it. The streets of the town are cobbled, and there are many ruins to be explored. The town is surrounded by three volcanoes, Agua, Fuego and Acatenango which explode from time to time! Unfortunately, in the midst of this beauty, poverty is rampant and visible.

Over the next few weeks I shall show more pictures from our trip. It is good to be back and once more working on my project.
