Water's Edge Portfolio

Many photographers, including myself, have found inspiration for photographic images where water meets land or other objects. I was visiting Nanoose Bay on Vancouver Island recently, and became very excited when I saw the rocks at the water's edge at low tide, all lit with beautiful sunset light. Beside rocks, there were many other objects that combined with the water to produce lovely miniatures; buildings, pilings, boats, logs, and tidal pools so I spent day after day exploring these images.

When I revisited my previous work, I realized that this theme of the water's edge was one that I had been unconsciously aware of for some time, so I decided to add some of these older images to this project. Some of these are Silver gelatin prints from 4x5 negatives, so for these I scanned the negatives and produced digital files for printing.

Water and rock are two of the most ubiquitous things in the world. Water is essential for all life and rock is the building material of our planet. Although the juxtaposition of water and rock is perhaps the most common one, I find that water often enhances and compliments any object it touches, so, consciously or unconsciously, I find myself seeking out or being drawn to these juxtapositions.
