Grace Presbyterian Church

Some of you may remember that last year I decided to do some night photography, and ran into some difficulties with the digital pictures. When I used my 4 x 5 camera and scanned the negative, I produced a lovely picture of the Louise Bridge. That same night, I did photograph this beautiful church with my digital camera and did not run into the same problems. I think that this was because there was sufficient ambient light so my exposure was relatively short, and as a result, I did not get much digital noise.

I had thought of photographing this church for almost 15 years but kept putting it off! I am glad that I finally decided to do this.

This is one of Calgary's original sandstone buildings and many years ago, more wonderful sandstone buildings graced Calgary, but over the years, most have been demolished. Calgary is only now recognizing these buildings to be part of our cultural heritage, and is trying to preserve some of them. This view of the entrance shows off the lovely stained glass windows, and the rising steps and interesting shadows lend added interest to the picture.
